Zig Zag- Gross Motor Activities for toddlers to teens

by Honey Rowland Leave a Comment

Coming up with indoor gross motor activities can be hard….especially when you’ve exhausted every idea YOU can think of. Luckily an awesome group of bloggers came together and have compiled a list of gross motor activities for toddlers, preschoolers, elementary and even TEENS. Yes even your TEENAGERS will enjoy playing along.

As a part of the Active Play from A to Z, I chose Z for Zig-Zag and the kids have had a blast.  My daughters have spent over 3 hours playing various games. Even my son got in on it. They were all laughing and really enjoying their self. I just stood over to the side snapping pictures.

Basically all I did was grab some colored tape and taped a “road” down with various zig zag right angles after pushing all the desks out of the way and a few boxes of books we’re selling. All three of the kids were drawn in asking what I was doing. I just said taping some zig zags. Sunshine started walking along the lines and I asked her if she could be a zig zag while she played. She bent over and started walking on her hands and toes with her bum up in the air. After a few giggles Tyler and Rhea said, “Can we play too?!” “Yup!”

Suddenly a 7, 14 and nearly 16 year old were all walking on their hands and toes, bums in the air laughing like loons. After snapping some pictures I sat down to work to which I noticed Rhea and Sunshine had changed the game when Tyler left. They started scooting and pushing their self with their hands. Then they put a hat on their head that covered their eyes and had to listen as someone told them directions to walk through. Then they started pulling each other, again with the hat covering their eyes, and laying on their backs. Apparently this was scary because who ever was being pulled would put their arms out and the other would holler, “You’re a mummy!”

I think it was the best use for that tape and they had a blast….and all it cost was a wee bit of tape.

Don’t forget to enter the giveaway at the bottom of the page for a Parachute Play Pack from Discount School Supply and would you please take a moment and pin or share it with your friends…especially any that are looking for snowed in fun! 😉

Going Clockwise: Rhea and Sunshine race scooting and trying to catch the other one. Walking on their hands and toes. With Rheas hair down she reminded me of that girl in the well horror movie. Dragging each other while blindfolded. Walking the line while blindfolded. Tyler maneuvering through the roads on his hands and toes with Rhea just behind him.

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
