Transparency in the blog world

by Honey Rowland 4 Comments

Today I read a post at The Snail’s Trial.  It’s about being honest & accepting who you/your family are/is, etc.  She spoke about how with witnessing others’ perfection it can cause us to covet what we see.  I have to disagree.  I love seeing all the things that are good in others lives & it makes me want to try harder to be a better mom, friend, lover.  It doesn’t make me try to change the core of my being or anything but I think it is a good nudge in the right direction.  And, while I do love seeing the realistic side to the blogs I’m not really interested in reading about children eating their boogers or the fact that (like myself) I’ve spent the past 2 days wearing the same outfit.  And, that’s not odd for me or the children.

We will wear the same clothes again if they’re not dirty.  Jeans are often used for more than 2 days.  This rarely happens with my son though.  He can find dirt in the middle of a bleach bottle.   But in honor of her post/challenge to blog about things we wouldn’t normally blog about…

-My car is filthy in and out.
-Our garage is a 4 car garage & it’s full of crap, junk, crap, my dead mothers stuff, crap & junk, & even more crap, junk, & stuff.
-I love techno music.
-I only have sex once a week…I want more but dear God, I’m too tired & I’d love to just lay back & allow him to do all the work instead of being an equal partner.  The other night I did just that.  I might do it again tonight.
-I have a vibrator and it’s awesome.
-Friends came to visit, their then 4 yr old twins found my vibrator & brought it out to the living room where EVERYONE was…and EVERYONE saw & knew just what it was…especially when one of them turned it on.
-I absolutly love trashy romance novels with lots of steamy, graphic sex.  And, if there is a vampire or a werewolf (Hello Anita!  I love you Laurell K. Hamilton) thrown in it’s even better.
-I have tons of fabric, yarn & scrapbook supplies that I rarely use.
-I read when I use the potty.
-I buy new vitamins constantly but NEVER remember to take them.
-I love watching documentaries on PBS.
-I think I could be a polygamist if there were some tweaking on the rules (Big Love won!)
-I allow my child to be naked 24/7.
-If Sunshine had an accident in the bed I just throw a towel on it and go back to sleep.
-I encourage & make the kids reuse their towels.
-I absolutly love having 20 + bottles of large Softsoap, over 100 toothbrushes, 50ish boxes of toothpaste, etc stocked up in my basement.
-I bake chocolate chip cookies & give them to the kids for breakfast…& it doesn’t even have to be a special occasion.
-I absolutly hate to hear the words out & about when someone with a certain accent says it
-I can speak & sing right along with every character in ‘The Little Mermaid’
-I laugh outloud when I read a book & the character does/says something funny.
-I’m actually writing all this down & I’ve no ‘followers’ and I don’t think anyone even knows about this blog!
-I have frames hung up all over the house but I’ve never put any of our family pictures in them…the children think the pictures are of family from other states or something! 😉
-I’ve scuzzed.  (picked something up from the curb that someone is going to throw away.)…I would scuzz again too.
-I recycle & forget to take it & will actually end up throwing it into the trash.
-I keep glass jars for some reason.  Every few months I’ll wonder what i’m doing & chuck ’em all out.
-I love the smell of stinky baby feet…has to be baby & has to be stinky.
-I have a HUGE bin of socks…none of them are mated & I don’t think they have mates to do it & yet…the bin ol’ bin still sits there…

Well…these are the things I would never blog about unless someone issues a challenge like Mama Snail did.  How’s that for transparency?

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo! Ummm…you shared things I would never DREAM of sharing. You’re a better woman than I; I bow down to you. 😉

Oh, you now have 2 followers.

I was a baby wearing, breastfeeding, sleep sharing mama when my kids were little. You’re living the life I’m too lazy to live. I’m glad someone can, tho. 🙂
