More Great Homeschool Convention of Cincinnati

Great Homeschool Conference of Cincinnati!

I was out to discover the new things in homeschool; curriculum, games, tips, support, planners, and encouragement.  Yep…I was out for it all and….

068

…I went crazy in the process.  This is what happens to a farm momma who forgets product for her hair!

RightStart Math workshop at Great Homeschool Convention in Cincinnati I was looking at more Right Start Math goodies and attended the workshop they had Friday to make sure I was teaching it right.  Their math curriculum is helping Tyler after only a few weeks of use.  We use to use Math-U-See (which we liked a lot) but I discovered he wasn’t able to “do” the math without the manipulative ‘.  I also discovered he didn’t know straight facts (no memorization) and I really thought that was a ‘problem’. Pun intended! 😉  But with RightStart Math we’re learning and knowing.  He’s actually coming in and rattling off a problem and the answer and saying ‘that’s right isn’t it!?’ with a smile.  It makes me happy to see him so proud.

I also discovered Homeschool In The Woods.  Oh.MY.  If you’re a fellow history buff…you’ll adore them  Homeschool in the Woods History Notebooking and Lapbooking at Great Homeschool Convention Cincinnait If you’re NOT a history fan …you’ll adore them as EVERYTHING is there for you.  I talked with Jarron for oh…20 minutes about how he’s the researcher and his momma Amy designs the art.  It’s a whole family business and they’ve done an amazing job putting together some in depth works. I think my favorite would be the American History series.  But…the Vikings and the Early Explorers is so cool too!  I thought about the Vikings to do along with the new series by the History channel.  We’re watching all of them and then we’ll let the kids see them….with a bit of editing. 😉

CiaCyberOps Card Game setup

I also discovered CiaCyberOps.  I actually sat down and PLAYED!!  I played like I was a kid again and had a blast.  It was the funnest game I’ve played in forever!!  I hate math and this game is full of it….yet…it was fun!  I’m not talking the fun that comes from someone who’s trying to talk their kid into doing a ‘fun’ math game fun…I’m talking ‘Hey it’s family game night! Let’s play!’ fun!

Playing CIACyberOps, a math game, where you hack your enemies computer

I also stumbled upon a really cute band-aid company called Band Angels.  I thought they were adorable with their pink or blue backgrounds, wee angels and verses but what’s really nice for us is they’re latex free and..they’re made in the USA!  I love being able to support nonprofits and made in the USA which Band Angels is! 🙂  I found it funny when I saw them as Ben was leaving work to take Tyler to the hospital for stitches. Luckily, the huge gash and TONS of stitches he’d need was down to a cleaning and 3 bandaids once  Ben got to him. 🙂  I think someone was a bit melodramatic!  They laughed when I told them the story and gave me a box of the blue ones for Tyler’s …cuts! 😉

I think this year was the best year so far for the Great Homeschool Convention.  While the vendors and workshops were great I think the company was even better as I was able to meet up with some mommas from the 2to1Conference for lunch.  All in all…I had a blast but I was excited to see my family and to share new curriculum, games, planners, and a refreshed momma that was reminded how awesome it is to be a homeschooler.

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
