Animals and Verbs

I’m a big fan of the 4Blocks model.  I use it with the Montessori language.  I think it’s a lovely addition & I’m finding more & more ways to mesh the two.  Now, many Montessorians say, ‘Nothing but art on the walls.’  I agree…except for the word wall.  I firmly believe that it simply adds an osmosis element to the kids learning.  But, if you’re not into a word wall then you can simply take these & change the font size.  They’re a simple word document so everyone can mess around & have fun.  The font I used for them looks a lot like the font used on the sandpaper letters so…I like it.

I used these on the wall but they’ve been packed away in preparation of the move.  I also printed them out smaller & we did an activity where the kids picked out a few nouns & verbs & we created stories about them.  I’m hoping to make up a list of adverbs, adjectives, etc.  We create our stories, write about them, chart them out (whole web thing/graphic organizer thing) occassionally and I’m wanting to come up with a new idea to do with them.  Oh, we also use them with the actual 4 blocks system but those were already prepared in a big ol’ box & right now I’m just not going to retype all of them.  I have thought about coloring them or outlining the words in their particular color (nouns black, verbs red…)

Hope you enjoy them & let me know how you found a use for them.  Oh, we also used them for labeling our animals.  Course most of ours are pictures but someday…

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
