Relationship is an art. The dream that two people create is more difficult to master than one. ~Don Miguel Ruiz

Our end goal as a family is to be self sufficient and sustainable so we can be with the kids more and work on the projects they have an interest in and to also help them realize their goals.  Nicole, of Adventures Off Grid, shares that same goal.  I wondered how things were for her hubby Kris, now  that he was firmly off grid.  Both of our husbands are/were …hesitant to move and give up jobs which have provided them with a sense of security.

But, I’ve recently realized partner or God, sometimes things are going to happen that force the issue and you have to go with it.

And, that’s exactly what happened to Nicole.  Nicole said God took the decision out of their hands when Kris lost his job.  This forced them to rent their house while they sell it and moved onto the property they had been setting up on weekends.

So, Nic and Kris and their family are there on their 6 acres, building their cabin, milking

cows, seeing the cycle of life as piglets are born and American Guinea Hog Boars are ate for dinner.  But, I’m nosy.  I wanted to know  if the lack of “distraction of the city” was creating two lovey dovey couples or were they plotting to knock one another off?  I know…but you were thinking it too.

Adventures off grid Nicole Kris Interview at HoneysLife.com

Nicole said there are still disagreements like any normal couple but over all their relationship has improved.  They laugh more but what got my attention was she said they PLAY more.  PLAY!!  I can’t remember when I and Ben just played together and it didn’t involve the kids.  They have time to play with not only the kids but with each other too.  Sigh….I can’t wait for more play.

I hear in Nicole’s voice, when Kris gets home early from his new  job ,the excitement and joy to see him as she rushes off the phone.  She’s always been excited but…there’s an intensity there that wasn’t before.  It’s just this side of going stalker and that’s totally acceptable.

I’m proud of my friend.  She’s giving me hope and encouraging my own drive for our journey.  After all, you’re never too old to play and play is work.  So get to work!

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
