56 bags of clothing to Goodwill….

by Honey Rowland Leave a Comment

My goal this year is to live more simply & in the moment.  So in honor of that simplicity I am removing all the things from my life that complicate it or doesn’t enable me to move forward.  And, since I can’t get rid of my extended family I’ve moved to our garage, closets & drawers.

Ever since Tyler outgrew his newborn clothes I have been sorting them into bins & storing them in the garage.  Now this was a really great idea.  It saved money since we wanted a large family and kept needless things out of landfills.  Well, after Rhea was born I had 8 miscarriages and lost Angel at 4 months along we then had Sunshine.  There is a huge age difference between Tyler & Sunshine & I don’t know if I want to have a little one when we’re sending Tyler to college so I think we’re done so why keep boy clothes when we don’t have a little boy to move into them & why keep all the extra girl clothes when a few outfits will be good for Sunshine to grow into?

So!  After realizing we’re moving (who wants to move over 55 bins of clothing!  Much less baby toys, equipment…) and putting good sense to use I decided it’s time to get rid of it all & enable others to make use of it.  So yesterday & today we loaded up the van with a total of 56 bags of infant, toddler, girl, boy, & adult clothes.  Yes…56 BAGS…we’re talking stretchy anti rip kitchen bags!

It’s amazing!  Even though the garage is still a mess (I’m ashamed to show the pictures of it before until I can show an after!) it feels wonderful.  It’s gave me the emotional courage to deal with my mom’s stuff (she’s been dead for nearly 12 years now & I haven’t dealt with much of it.), stop dreaming of coulda been’s/shoulda beens & I’m living in the moment.

I highly recommend getting rid of it all.  After all…how many shirts do you really need?  Have trouble keeping up with the laundry?  It’s probally because you have too many clothes.  I have too many clothes still.  I’m getting rid of it all.  It feels really great, freeing even.  And, my husband is tickled pink that he doesn’t have to buy bins anymore & doesn’t have to store, fetch, etc bins.

If you have stock in any of the bin making companies…I’d recommend selling it quick.  I’m no longer their number one supporter & you’ll about to lose some money!

55 bins down…..many more to go.

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
