31 Days to Going Green to Enhance Your Life

by Honey Rowland Leave a Comment

Over the next month I’m going to share tips on going green and by the time the series is done…you’ll be overcoming obstacles to going green like a BOSS!

31 Day to Going Green. Cleaning Toxins from your body, home and family.

So, today is Day one and I’m going to share that this isn’t a you have to do this in 31 literal days. This isn’t meant to stress you out and make you curl into the fetal position, shaking and sobbing, as you repeat over and over “toxins! toxins everywhere!”

Nope. No sobbing or committals needed here and no shame or finger pointing.  You can take 31 months, 31 hours if you’re so inclined and super awesome.

I’ve ate at the arches. (HUSH! Back away! I’ve pepper spray!) I’ve ate at Wendys. My kids even ate Wendy’s with me as this week as I’m preparing to attend Shiftcon (it’s a green eco wellness conference too!  Yes, I know the irony is rich here.)  And, while we’re 99% organic I think no.  I KNOW I need a break sometimes and Wendy’s french fries and burger can help.  Ohio isn’t your green restaurant capital of the world so you do what you can so you don’t mail the kids & hubby off to Timbuktu or verbally brutalize the driver in front of you.

Going green struggles are many as they involve our food, the way we were raised, and our traditions.

Plus being a parent I’m torn because I KNOW if I didn’t take the time to drive over to get super yummy coffee a few times a month I’d be able to afford an organic “instant” food.  But, lets be real.  All the organic food in the world isn’t going to do a thing for the kids if I’ve turned into a raving loon, so I’m not here to guilt trip you.  I’m not here to make you think that it’s impossible to do  for what ever reason. I’m hear to provide you with some information that will help you make some changes in your life which will remove toxins from your life, increase your health and actually put more green in the fridge and your wallet.

We’re going to share pictures of our fridges, our pantries.  We’re going to celebrate the changes we make…even if it means you switch from a we all know it’s junk food something to a product that is simply healthier but isn’t organic.  That’s ok.  We’re celebrating it all.  After all we all started out somewhere and I started out in high school and replaced my sugary cereal with instant oatmeal.  Not even close to organic or nongmo but you know…it was less sugar and whole grains.  So, don’t be ashamed.  Share and inspire and encourage one another.

If you’re on Instagram follow me at there and be sure to use #31GreenDays when you share pictures of how you’re making greener choices.  Also, join me over at the 31 Green Days facebook group  to share questions, successes and even your failures.  They’re all acceptable.  It’ll be a bit slow until I get back from Shiftcon but I’ll be working on it as I can. 🙂

And come back everyday for more tips to learn why removing toxins from your body and home or how going green is an easy and affordable thing to do.

Later Mommas!
~Honey

About Honey Rowland

Organic since it was a dirty hippie word is an easy way to understand me. With 3 kiddos (7, 14, and 16) and one bearded hubby I raise chickens, ducks, turkeys, goats, rabbits and Great Pyrenees livestock guardians on our organically ran mini farm in Ohio. A bull calf and heritage breed pigs have recently been added, along with an impending move into our less than 600 sq ft tiny home that's more and more off grid with each solar panel we buy.

Homeschooling, green living, self-sufficiency and natural parenting (but with yelling) is the norm here. Any skipping through the tulips tends to end with a face plant in chicken or duck poo but being a "glass half full" kind of gal I can smile 'cause the poo is organic and non-gmo!
